RESPONSIBLE SOURCING PRACTICES

We source high-quality ingredients and materials from around the world to manufacture our products, working diligently to source responsibly and with attention to potential impacts on people and environment. To effectively address the challenges related to responsible sourcing, we also participate in multi-stakeholder collaborative initiatives that help us build and strengthen our sourcing strategies.

Supplier Code of Conduct

Our Supplier Code of Conduct serves as the basis for how we evaluate and help our suppliers meet our high ethical standards in the procurement of our product ingredients and materials. We expect our suppliers to comply with local or national laws and regulations governing minimum wages, work hours, overtime compensation, hiring, occupational safety, forced labour or child labour and biodiversity. In addition, ELC’s Supplier Sustainability Guidelines provide suppliers with practical actions they can take, building on the foundation of the Supplier Code requirements, to move towards best practice.

Improving Supplier Sustainability Practices with EcoVadis

We conduct risk assessments and perform due diligence on select direct and indirect suppliers. In addition, we monitor supplier performance and implement corrective action plans as needed. We use EcoVadis, an online ratings service by which suppliers can be assessed on environmental impact, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement practices.

EcoVadis ranks suppliers with numerical scores that reflect the maturity level of their sustainability programmes, practices and initiatives. This system allows suppliers to see how their practices compare to an objective benchmark. We find that suppliers are often motivated to improve their scores based on the visibility EcoVadis provides.

Supplier Inclusion & Diversity

Ensuring supplier diversity is an important component of our approach. As an inclusive and diverse company, we are focused on broadening our purchasing choices to better support suppliers representing LGBTQIA+, veterans, ethnic minorities and people with disabilities, among other populations. Additionally, we have placed a specific focus on women- and Black-owned businesses. Our objective is to help drive economic development and growth of diverse and small businesses in the supplier base.

We belong to several advocacy organisations to continue our learning and grow our diverse supplier network, including:

  • Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), the largest certifier of women-owned businesses in the US and a leading advocate for women business owners and entrepreneurs.
  • WEConnect International, connects women-owned businesses with diverse opportunities by enabling them to compete in a global marketplace and enhancing their capabilities to transact business internationally.
  • Minority Supplier Development UK (MSDUK), the UK’s leading supplier diversity advocacy organisation working for inclusion of ethnic minority businesses in corporate supply chains.
  • Disability:IN, the leading non-profit resource for business disability inclusion worldwide.
